  • Lake County Volunteers to Package Thousands of Meals to Fight Global Hunger

If you’ve ever participated in a Rise Against Hunger meal-packaging event, you know that every scoop of rice, soy, and vegetables is more than just an ingredient — it is also hope.

On Saturday, March 21, volunteers from across the Lake County area will gather to package thousands of nutritious meals that will provide nourishment and hope for people facing hunger around the world. Participants work together to assemble, weigh, and seal nutrient-dense meals made of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and essential vitamins. These meals are distributed globally through Rise Against Hunger’s international partners to communities facing food insecurity.

Last year, twenty volunteers from First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora participated in the effort, helping package more than 40,000 meals. Those meals were sent to Salesian Missions in Haiti, a ministry that feeds orphans and children living in extreme poverty.

The event will take place at North Lake Presbyterian Church, 975 Rolling Acres Road in Lady Lake, with two volunteer shifts available at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. The high-energy, family-friendly experience brings people together for a meaningful hands-on effort to combat global hunger.

Community members who would like to participate in this fun and high-spirited event are invited to contact First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora at 352-383-4089 for more information or to sign up.
