About the Business
Alexis Adapts is a Mount Dora–based advocacy and coaching service dedicated to helping parents better support their children—both in school and at home.
Founder Alexis Jandreau works as an IEP Advocate and Parent Coach, guiding parents through the special education process while also helping families build stronger, more connected relationships with their children.
Her mission is simple but powerful: support the grownups so that all children can thrive.
The Story Behind the Business
Before launching Alexis Adapts, Alexis spent more than 21 years as an elementary school teacher with Lake County Schools, working closely with students and families every day.
During her time in the classroom, she saw how overwhelming the education system can be for parents—especially when navigating Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and school meetings.
Many parents want to advocate for their children but simply don’t know where to start. Alexis recognized that families often need someone who understands both the classroom and the system to guide them through it.
That realization led her to create Alexis Adapts, where she now helps parents feel informed, confident, and supported when making decisions about their children’s education.
Helping Families Navigate IEPs
As an IEP Advocate, Alexis works directly with parents whose children either have—or may need—an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan.
She meets with parents to understand their child’s needs and works with them to create a plan of recommended services and accommodations to present to the school’s IEP team. Alexis also prepares an agenda parents can share before meetings, attends meetings alongside families, and takes detailed notes so parents can focus on the conversation.
Afterward, she helps families review the Prior Written Notice (PWN) to confirm that everything discussed is accurately documented and supports ongoing communication with the school as the child’s IEP or 504 plan evolves.
Her goal is to make sure parents understand their rights and feel confident advocating for the individualized education their child deserves.
Parent Coaching for Stronger Family Connections
In addition to advocacy work, Alexis also serves as a Parent Coach, helping parents navigate the emotional and relational side of raising children.
Through coaching, she helps parents understand their triggers, break generational patterns, and develop strategies that strengthen connection and communication within the family.
Parent coaching isn’t about fixing children—it’s about supporting parents so they can show up in the way they truly want to for their families.
Supporting Neurodiverse Families
Alexis has a particular passion for supporting families raising neurodivergent children, including those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, trauma backgrounds, and other learning differences.
When a child’s brain works differently, traditional parenting approaches and school expectations don’t always apply. Alexis helps families find strategies that work for their unique situation so parents can feel confident, calm, and connected while supporting their child’s strengths.
A New Chapter
This year marks a major transition for Alexis. After more than two decades in the classroom, she is stepping away from teaching to focus on Alexis Adapts full time.
The move allows her to dedicate more time to supporting families navigating IEP processes, preparing for school meetings, and building healthier family dynamics.
Why Mount Dora
For Alexis, building her business in Mount Dora was a natural choice.
She graduated from Mount Dora High School (Class of 2000) and has deep roots in the community. Mount Dora isn’t just where she works—it’s home.
Building Community Through the Chamber
Through the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce, Alexis has enjoyed connecting with fellow business owners and sharing her work with the community.
Participating in the Chamber’s Greeting Card Lane event was a particularly memorable experience and gave her the opportunity to meet many local families and businesses.
Defining Success
For Alexis, success is measured by the outcomes she sees in the families she supports.
Seeing a child’s plans, goals, and potential come to life—and watching parents gain the confidence to advocate for their children—is what makes the work meaningful.
