SUMMARY:Lake & Orange Counties: A Century of Change
DESCRIPTION:The Modernism Museum Mount Dora presents our next Dine & Learn at 1921 Mount Dora: Lake & Orange Counties: A Century of Change featuring Jim Crescitelli of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation on Thursday\, September 19th\, 2019 at 12:30 PM (luncheon) and 6:30 PM (dinner). The event will take place at the Modernism Museum's award-winning restaurant\, 1921 Mount Dora (recently voted #1 Best Restaurant in Lake County by Orlando Magazine). The cost is $35 a three-course\, prix-fixe menu with lecture included.\n\nJoin the Modernism Museum and Jim Crescitelli in a discussion of the history of West Orange County and the Lake Apopka region through the people who settled here. Native Americans\, pioneers drawn from the Deep South\, farmers and citrus workers\, and people brought here by 20th century theme parks and the aerospace industry all shaped this part of Central Florida. Photographs from the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation archive tell a story of boom times and rapid growth\, severe downturns in the citrus industry\, the demise of Lake Apopka\, and the renaissance that began in the late 1990s.\n\nJim Crescitelli is the Program Director for the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation. He's been interested in the history of West Orange County and the Lake Apopka region since moving here in 1978 from New York. He began photographing the area and gathering its history through books\, newspapers\, and the recollections of residents. This material helped immensely when he began working for the Foundation in 2012.\n\nPlease call the Modernism Museum at (352) 385-0034 to reserve your spot. Limited seating is available
