Description: Once again master storyteller Tim Totten will delight and entertain you about Florida s connection to Frank Lloyd Wright. Many thanks to the Mount Dora Library Association for sponsoring this program. Begun in 1938 and continuing until Wright s death, the relationship between this American architectural genius and a small Methodist college (Florida Southern College, Lakeland) in Central Florida is one of the longest of his career and turned out to be the one experiment in community planning that came to full fruition for the artist. Today, 14 of his structures anchor the campus, rising from the rolling grounds like a Child of the Sun as Wright so eloquently decreed.

Description: While the 2015 hurricane season so far has been slow and is predicted to be below average with 9 named storms and with 5 being hurricanes and 1 being a major storm, do not be lulled into a sense of security. While we have already had 3 named storms, May s Tropical Storm Ana, Tropical Storm Bill in June and Tropical Storm Claudette in July, of the hurricane the peak months of the hurricane season is still to come August through October. So do you know the difference between a hurricane watch or a hurricane warning and the steps you need to take to keep you and your family safe? Whether you are a long time resident of Florida or a new resident, you can learn something at the W. T. Bland Public Library's annual Hurricane Preparedness programs. You will hear from a panel of experts including the City of Mount Dora Engineer/Paramedic Anne Bell, Charles Revell of the City s Electric Department, a representative of the American Red Cross of Lake & Sumter Counties, a representative from Lake County Emergency Management and Kevin McEwen of Hillcrest Insurance Agency. In addition, you will be able to obtain informational handouts of all kind including the SECO storm booklet, list of local Red Cross hurricane shelters, and information from Lake County Humane Society on how to keep your pets safe. Light refreshments are being sponsored by the Mount Dora Library Association. Door prize donors are Hillcrest Insurance Agency, Lake County Emergency Management and the Mount Dora Library Association.

Description: Celebrate the dog days of summer with some real dogs at Osprey Lodge on Thursday August 20, when we hold our Dog Day of August. The event features the Menestrelli Dog Act from professional third generation European circus performers Yana & Sergey and their amazing troupe of trained dogs at 11am, followed at 2:00pm by a costumed doggie pet parade, a doggie kissing booth, and adoptable dogs to pet and visit with. Participating local groups and shelters include PAWS Therapy Dogs, South Lake Animal League, and Greyhound Pets of America Senior Sanctuary. The event is sponsored in part by Advantage Wellness Services. The two legged public is invited to attend; tickets for the Menestrelli Dog Act at 11am are free but require an advance reservation as seating is extremely limited. The 2pm dog parade and other afternoon dog events are open with no reservation necessary- just come and enjoy. If you re looking for a dog to adopt, you may even find it here at the event! Adoptable dogs will be here from 2-4pm.
